It’s been a while since I painted any fish, I’ve been so busy with the rocking horses. But I find it so therapeutic if I get a bit stressed. There is just something magical about fish!
 
I love my bold backgrounds and often paint a batch in similar colours, and then just leave them, sometimes for months, until they “speak” to me.
 
This is a real one off. I loved the tropical feel of the stripes and wanted to created a good contrast with the simply elegant fantail. I suppose it’s reflective of how I was feeling. Looking for a bit of calm from the constant demands of life and motherhood.
 
This piece measures 20”(51cm) x 30” (76 cm) and is painted in acrylics on a 6 mm thick wooden panel. I have framed it in a classic guilt swept frame, which I think looks great! So including the frame, it measures 25” (64 cm) x 35” (89 cm) and is approximately 2” (5cm) deep
 
I love the texture of the wood, which is smooth and solid, but never perfect. You can still see the grain of the wood and it’s glorious imperfections coming through the bold colours
