This is a very large piece I completed last year.
 
I live to paint in wooden panels, and this one just seemed to speak to me, it wanted to be a tree again! A friend of mine keeps birds of prey and one of her beautiful Barn Owls became the model for this piece.
 
It is a mixed media artwork, I used lots of texture and modelling paste to create lumps and bumps in the bark. The owl was completed in oils and has now fully dried and will be varnished shortly
 
I chose a very simple white tray frame for this piece as I wanted the edges of the wood panel to be visible
 
Including the frame it measures 88 cm x 88 cm (34.6" x 36.4"), the actual board measures 78 cm x 78 cm (30" x 30")
